Smart Rings: Circular Ring 2

Smart rings are technological and medical devices that have progressively just gotten better. Wearable technology is an advancing market and these rings are both sleek and convenient for day to day use while looking chic. Smart rings are able to track your health, monitor your fitness levels, display notifications, utilize contactless payments, track your sleep, and from these tracking capabilities, it can track vital health data (Grepow). This vital health data is measured and recorded throughout your day to day activities which is why these smart rings are so innovative. Taking a closer look at the vital health data that these rings can record, they can monitor heart rate, body temperature, blood oxygen levels, sleep quality, and overall fitness (Grepow). This is similar to a apple watch where it measures your fitness, steps, and activity with a complex system called Near Field Communication that allows for contactless payments with just a tap; these rings utilize the aspects that all technology developers are trying to achieve through smart watches but with something smaller and more convenient (Grepow).

How exactly are these smart rings powered, you might ask? They contain small lithium-ion or lithium-polymer batteries which are able to keep the sensors, processors, and communication technologies running while being easily rechargeable either magnetically or wirelessly; even then the battery doesn’t die for several days (Grepow). These rings are also quite efficient in terms of power consumption because of the low-energy sensors, and low-energy bluetooth connectivity which allows the ring to function but without draining its battery quickly (Grepow). Looking specifically at a new smart ring called the Circular Ring 2, this ring is meant to change the game and advance this field of wearable technology. This ring is 349$ and was announced on January 5th, 2025, it does not have a subscription fee unlike its competitors, and is made of aluminum, titanium and a non-metal material on the inside making it more durable than before (Bracaglia).

It has updated sensors for more precise tracking, it also is one of the first smart rings with on-finger ECG readings and FDA-approved AFib detection which previously were only available on select smart watches, but this ring is in one of the select wearable technological devices that has these features (Bracaglia). Compared to its previous model which went two days until it needed to be charged, the Circular Ring 2 can go 8 days uncharged (Bracaglia). As an apple watch user whose watch dies after one day, this ring is super impressive to me. This battery life of 8 days includes the time you sleep, while an apple watch may get you through the day but die by bedtime (Bracaglia). Its price point is similar to the lower end of an Apple watch’s price point, and its technological sensors, and tracking capabilities are superior to previous smart rings and its release to consumers will open a whole new era of smart rings.

Smart ring competitors such as Oura or Samsung Galaxy have price points of 300$ and $399.99$, respectively, while not yet having aspects like the on-finger ECG reading and AFib detection like the Circular Ring 2 does (Tech Research). Smart rings can change the future of wearable technology with its combination of technology, health, finance, and fashion while also having a sleek and non-bulky design suitable for everyday use (Tech Research).
